The whole truth about CBD in the treatment of epilepsy
Epilepsy is a disease that can make everyday life much more difficult. People have been searching for practical solutions for it for years. They wanted to stop or mitigate epileptic seizures, but even modern medicine throws up its hands. Recently, the topic of using CBD in epilepsy is increasingly being discussed. Read on, and you will learn more about it.
CBD hemp oil
At the outset, we want to inform you that there can be much false information found on the Internet about CBD products. As a shop that deals in selling CBD products, including CBD hemp oil, we wish to notify you that these are not medical products. They do not cure any disease, including epilepsy.
The products that we sell are not curative, but the research regarding the properties of cannabidiol is still ongoing. The effect of said research is, among others, the very first full-fledged drug containing cannabidiol – Epidiolex, which is used in the treatment of epilepsy.
What is epilepsy?
Epilepsy is a brain disease that is characterised by its temporary disability. It is a neurological disorder – manifesting itself by sudden and paroxysmal discharges inside the nerve cells. The most common at the time are disorders of consciousness and convulsions.
It is estimated that ¼ of diagnosed epilepsy cases are of a drug-resistant type. That means that the pharmaceutics has not yet invented a drug that could help in the fight against this disease. It is no wonder that cannabidiol, which has been studied in the 1980s by Professor Mechoulam in the treatment of epilepsy, is so popular.
Does CBD help with epilepsy?
In 2017, the American Epilepsy Society (AES) had confirmed that CBD inhibits epileptic seizures. They proved that cannabidiol, or CBD, reduces the frequency and severity of seizures for adults as well as children.
It’s common knowledge that cannabinoids weaken the formation of excess neurotransmitters (which are responsible for seizures). For this reason, they counteract convulsions – muscles do not get a signal that would trigger an attack.
However, it is worth emphasising that CBD hemp oil is not a cure for epilepsy. It is still a disease that is considered incurable. It is known, however, that cannabidiol can effectively inhibit or reduce to some extent the intensity of the most hindersome symptom of epilepsy – convulsive attack. The proof of that is the existence of the previously mentioned Epidiolex.
CBD in epilepsy, or a few words about Epidiolex
Epidiolex is the first CBD-based drug that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has officially approved for use. It is utilised to treat drug-resistant epilepsy – it successfully alleviates its symptoms. The medicinal properties of Epidiolex were confirmed; it’s suitable even for children.
We would like to remind you that all the products available in our store, although based on CBD, do not have medicinal properties. They do not cure any diseases or are medical products.
