Is there any THC in CBD oil?
There are many potential therapeutic benefits associated with the use of cannabinoids (cannabis compounds). Cannabinoids interact with the body’s native endocannabinoid system (ECS) and help promote wellness and balance. But the psychoactive effect of THC remains a controversial issue. Is this particular compound found in every CBD oil or hemp-derived product? Is there any THC in CBD oil?
What is the difference between Hemp seed oil, CBD oil and Cannabis oil?
First, let’s discuss the confusion around the terminology often used to describe cannabis or hemp-derived oils. There are many terms used to describe oils obtained from the cannabis or hemp plant. These terms can often be confusing, and different companies will often use different terminology – which adds to this confusion. Different countries may also use different terms, for example; marijuana oil in the US or cannabis oil in the UK. It is important to know the difference between these products as some are still illegal in many countries. So what is the difference between hemp seed oil, CBD oil and full spectrum cannabis oil?.
1. Hemp seed oil.
Hemp seed oil is made by pressing hemp seeds together until the oil within them excretes. Hemp seeds are considered one of the best sources of protein. Along with the protein benefits, hemp seeds have an abundance of essential amino and fatty acids that the human body requires. It’s high nutritional value makes it one of the easiest substances to digest.
Since only the seeds are being used, hemp seed oils contain no CBD or THC, and none of the cannabinoids that are found in the stalks, flowers, and leaves of the hemp plant. Although hemp seed oils offer many health benefits they do not contain THC or CBD. Hemp seed oil is not to be confused with hemp oil, CBD oil, cannabis oil or marijuana oil.
2. CBD oil
CBD oil (sometimes referred to as hemp oil but not to be confused with hemp seed oil) is obtained from industrial hemp, which has been modified for years to have the highest concentration of cannabidiol (CBD), with no or only trace amounts of THC. High quality CBD oils are made using the “whole plant” and contain a full array of beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes.
Therefore, as the name suggests, CBD oil is a good source of CBD and other beneficial cannabinoids. At Bionativa we sell a range of high quality, lab tested, organic, CBD oils.
3. ”Full spectrum” cannabis oil.
Oil extracted from the cannabis plant, that contains high levels of THC, is often referred to as full spectrum cannabis oil; not to be confused with full spectrum CBD oil (I know, it’s very confusing!) The important thing to note is that full spectrum cannabis oil contains high levels of THC which are illegal in most countries. THC offers it’s own therapeutic benefits but also has psychoactive properties which some people may want to avoid.
Is there THC in every CBD oil?
CBD oils with low THC level (below 0.2%) and high level of CBD can still be called CBD oils. Products with trace amounts of THC are considered completely legal in most countries, they can be manufactured, distributed and consumed without any obstacles. It is worth noting that there are completely THC-free CBD oils available, but they may not be as beneficial as CBD products containing an abundance of cannabinoids.
What are the best CBD oils to buy?
The cannabis plant contains a multitude of different compounds known as cannabinoids and terpenes. Each compound has its own potential therapeutic benefits. The combined benefits of all the compounds found in cannabis is known as the ‘entourage effect’ – this means the combined beneficial effect is greater than the individual components.
Therefore, a product containing a full array of cannabinoids and terpenes should have a more beneficial effect on the body than one made from CBD alone. For this reason, we recommend you buy a full spectrum CBD oil (not to be confused with a full spectrum cannabis oil) which contains a full array of cannabis compounds. All CBD oils sold by us at Bionativa contain an abundance of beneficial cannabis compounds at legal levels, including our high quality, lab tested CannabiGold CBD oil range.
Is there THC in CBD oil?
So, to answer the original question; is there THC in CBD oil? The most straightforward answer is; Yes, but only trace amounts which are legal and safe to use on a daily basis, and will not cause a “high”. Although it needs to be noted that some CBD oils do not contain any THC, high quality oils made from whole plant extract will contain a full array of cannabinoids which add to the “entourage effect”, and the overall effectiveness of the product.
